Section 1: Product Overview

The Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit represents the evolution of the central water-based air conditioning terminal from the simple functional device concealed within the ceiling structure to an architectural element that participates actively in the ceiling design of the spaces it serves. Where the horizontal concealed unit is entirely hidden and its presence in a room is known only from the supply and return grilles at ceiling level, the cassette unit presents a decorative face panel as a visible ceiling feature — a square or rectangular element that, in well-executed installations, reads as a design-intentional part of the ceiling rather than as a utilitarian mechanical fitting.

This visible presence is paired with a fundamentally different and superior air distribution capability. The four-way simultaneous discharge from all four edges of the face panel creates an air distribution pattern that no single-direction or two-direction terminal device can replicate. As supply air is discharged outward from all four sides simultaneously, it sweeps across the ceiling surface by Coanda effect and descends progressively around the perimeter of the room, creating a continuous circular air movement pattern that maintains even temperature distribution across the entire floor area. In rooms served by the Ceiling Cassette fan coil unit, there are no areas of stagnant air, no cold spots near the supply air discharge, and no warm spots remote from the single supply grille — the temperature field is genuinely uniform from wall to wall.

This air distribution superiority makes the cassette unit the correct specification choice over horizontal concealed units for any application where the room or space is too large, too open, or too geometrically irregular for a single-direction supply air stream to reach all occupied areas effectively. Open-plan office floors, hotel lobbies and corridors, retail shopping areas, restaurant dining areas, and large residential living rooms all share the characteristic that a directional supply air stream from one or two grilles would leave significant areas of the space either over-supplied or under-supplied — conditions that the Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit four-way discharge eliminates.

Section 2: Product Structure and Key Components

Ultra-Slim Square Body The machine body is a square or near-square form factor fabricated from galvanized steel sheet with flame-retardant closed-cell elastomeric foam insulation applied continuously to all internal surfaces. The slim body profile — typically 200 to 300mm in body height — allows installation within the ceiling void above standard suspended ceiling systems without requiring unusually deep ceiling void spaces. The body is designed to be suspended from the building structure above the ceiling void using threaded hanger rods at designated suspension points, with the bottom face of the body aligned flush with the underside of the ceiling grid at installation.

Low-Noise Centrifugal or Cross-Flow Fan The fan assembly uses either a centrifugal impeller or a cross-flow fan design depending on the specific model configuration. Centrifugal impellers deliver higher static pressure capability for configurations where supply air must overcome the resistance of adjustable discharge vanes and face panel geometry. Cross-flow fans provide a particularly uniform velocity distribution across the discharge width, contributing to the even four-way air distribution pattern. All fan assemblies use dynamically balanced impellers to minimize vibration transmission to the ceiling structure, which is acoustically critical in ceiling-mounted equipment because structure-borne vibration from ceiling installations transmits readily into the occupied space below.

Copper Tube and Aluminum Fin Heat Exchanger Coil The heat exchanger coil uses the same seamless copper tube and hydrophilic aluminum fin construction with hydraulic tube expansion contact that is standard for the horizontal concealed range — providing the same heat exchanger effectiveness and long-term thermal performance stability. The coil is positioned horizontally within the body to allow the fan to draw air downward through the central return opening and upward through the coil before radially discharging it through the four-way supply openings at the body perimeter.

Integrated Condensate Management System The condensate management system of the Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit is more complex than that of the horizontal concealed unit because the cassette installation creates specific drainage challenges. The condensate tray surrounds the full perimeter of the coil within the body, collecting condensate that forms on all surfaces of the coil during cooling operation. The tray design incorporates a continuous slope toward one or more collection points connected to the drain outlet.

The optional integrated drain pump is the most significant practical advantage of the cassette unit over horizontal concealed units for installations in ceiling voids where adequate gravity drain slope cannot be achieved. Where a horizontal concealed unit requires the condensate drain pipe to be routed at a continuous downward slope to reach a drain point — which is not always achievable in complex ceiling void environments with structural members, other services, and limited vertical space — the integrated drain pump actively pumps condensate upward and horizontally to reach the nearest drain connection, regardless of the ceiling void geometry. This capability makes the Four Way Air Discharge Cassette Unit installable in locations where horizontal concealed units would be impractical without significant pipe routing modifications.

Decorative Face Panel with Adjustable Vanes The decorative face panel is the visible element of the installation, designed to integrate with standard suspended ceiling systems. Panels are available in standard white finish compatible with plasterboard and mineral fiber ceiling systems, and in alternative finishes including metallic, brushed, and custom colors for applications where the ceiling design requires a specific aesthetic treatment. Each of the four discharge openings in the face panel incorporates a row of adjustable louver vanes that can direct the supply air horizontally outward along the ceiling — the Coanda-effect position for maximum throw and uniform distribution — or angled downward for more direct vertical delivery into the occupied zone.

The central return opening in the face panel draws room air back into the unit for reconditioning. The return opening incorporates the air filter, accessible from below by removing the face panel, allowing routine filter cleaning without requiring access to the ceiling void above.

Control Components The unit electrical system includes the motor terminal block for three-speed selection, the connection interface for the two-port or three-port electric water valve, the wiring connections for the room thermostat, and for pump-equipped models, the drain pump control circuit including the float switch level sensor that triggers the pump when condensate accumulates to the activation level. The control system is designed to start the drain pump automatically before it could overflow the tray, operating the pump until the tray is drained, and to generate a fault signal if the tray level continues to rise despite pump operation — indicating a blocked drain or pump fault that requires maintenance attention.

Section 4: Four-Way Discharge — The Air Distribution Advantage

The four-way simultaneous discharge capability of the Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit is not merely a different number of supply air openings compared to a single-direction unit — it produces a qualitatively different air distribution pattern in the room that directly determines whether uniform temperature conditions can be achieved across the occupied floor area.

Understanding the Coanda Effect in Ceiling Discharge When a stream of air is discharged horizontally along a ceiling surface at sufficient velocity, it adheres to the ceiling surface by the Coanda effect — the tendency of a fluid stream to follow a nearby surface. This adhesion keeps the supply air stream traveling along the ceiling rather than dropping immediately into the occupied zone, extending the horizontal reach of the supply air across the ceiling before it descends through the room height. The distance the supply air travels along the ceiling before descending — the throw — determines how much of the room area is reached by conditioned supply air.

Single-Direction Discharge Limitations A horizontal concealed unit with a single supply air grille at one end of the room discharges supply air in one direction. For the supply air to reach the far end of the room by the time it descends to the occupied zone, the throw must equal the room length. In practice, this requires high supply air velocity, which generates noise, or a long horizontal supply air duct with multiple grilles to extend coverage, which adds installation complexity and pressure loss.

Four-Way Discharge Coverage The Four Way Air Discharge Cassette Unit installed at the center of a room discharges supply air outward in all four directions simultaneously. Each supply air stream needs to travel only half the room width or length before reaching the perimeter walls — not the full room dimension as required from a single-side unit. This halving of the required throw allows four-way cassette units to achieve uniform temperature coverage at lower supply air velocities, with lower noise, and without duct distribution systems, in room areas and geometries that would require complex supply air duct systems with directional units.

Practical Implication for Room Selection For rooms up to approximately 15 square meters with regular geometry, a well-positioned horizontal concealed unit with low static pressure direct discharge can achieve adequate temperature distribution. For rooms from 15 to 60 square meters — particularly square or nearly square rooms, open-plan areas, and any room where wall space for a horizontal concealed unit is unavailable — the Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit four-way discharge is the technically superior specification that delivers genuinely uniform temperature distribution without supplementary duct systems.

Section 5: How It Works — Complete Air Conditioning Cycle

Room Air Return Through Central Panel Opening Room air is drawn through the central return air opening in the face panel by the negative pressure at the fan inlet. The return air passes upward through the air filter — accessible from below by removing the face panel — which captures airborne dust and particulates before the air reaches the heat exchanger coil. The central return air position, drawing from the center of the room ceiling, provides effective return air collection from all areas of the room simultaneously.

Heat Exchange — Cooling and Dehumidification In cooling mode, chilled water from the central plant flows through the copper tube coil at approximately 7°C. Room air drawn upward through the filter passes over the cold coil surfaces, transferring heat to the chilled water and dropping in temperature from room conditions to the supply air temperature of approximately 16 to 18°C. Simultaneously, water vapor in the warm room air condenses on the cold coil surfaces and drips into the surrounding condensate tray, reducing room humidity as well as temperature. The cooler, drier air is then distributed radially outward through the four-way discharge openings.

Four-Way Radial Air Distribution The conditioned supply air exits the body through the four perimeter discharge openings in the face panel, controlled by adjustable louver vanes. With vanes set to the horizontal position, supply air travels along the ceiling surface by Coanda effect, extending throw and maximizing room coverage before descending into the occupied zone. As four supply air streams travel outward simultaneously from a central unit position, they create a symmetrical air movement pattern throughout the room that naturally produces uniform temperature distribution at all points.

Condensate Collection and Removal Condensate collected in the surrounding tray is either gravity-drained through the drain outlet connection to the building drainage system, or actively pumped by the optional integrated drain pump when the float switch detects that the tray condensate level has reached the pump activation point. The pump discharges condensate through a small-diameter pressure drain pipe that can be routed in any direction — including upward — within the ceiling void to reach the nearest building drain connection point.

Temperature Control The wall thermostat monitors room temperature and signals the electric water valve and fan motor to maintain the user-set temperature set point. Three-speed fan selection allows the occupant to choose between faster pull-down at high speed and quieter steady-state maintenance at low speed. The four-way discharge ensures that temperature control achieved at the thermostat location accurately represents the temperature across the entire room rather than just the zone nearest the thermostat.

Section 6: Manufacturing Process and Quality Control

Dezhou Pengkai Air Conditioning Equipment Co., Ltd. applies comprehensive quality management throughout Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit production:

Coil Fabrication and Pressure Testing Copper tube and aluminum fin coil assemblies are fabricated using the same hydraulic tube expansion process as the horizontal concealed range, ensuring consistent tube-to-fin contact thermal resistance. Each completed coil is pressure-tested at 1.5 times maximum working pressure before assembly to verify zero leakage.

Fan Assembly and Dynamic Balancing Fan impellers — whether centrifugal or cross-flow type — undergo dynamic balancing after assembly. For ceiling cassette installations, impeller balance quality is particularly important because structure-borne vibration from a ceiling-mounted unit transmits directly into the room through the ceiling structure, and even small residual imbalance can generate perceptible vibration noise at room level. Balance verification to the required grade is performed for every fan assembly.

Condensate Tray and Pump Integration The condensate tray assembly is tested for drainage function and float switch operation before installation in the body. For pump-equipped models, the complete pump circuit is tested including automatic pump start on float switch activation, pump stop on tray drain completion, and fault signal output on tray overflow condition. Pump head and flow rate are verified against specification to confirm the pump can discharge condensate against the maximum design pipe length and lift height.

Face Panel Dimensional Verification Face panel dimensions are verified against the standard ceiling grid module dimensions for which the unit is designed. Panel finish quality — color consistency, surface smoothness, and edge definition — is inspected against the applicable visual quality standard. Vane adjustment function across the full range of discharge angles is tested for smooth operation without binding.

Final Function Test Every completed Recessed Ceiling Central AC Terminal undergoes a running test at all three speed settings, verifying airflow from all four discharge openings, absence of abnormal noise or vibration, correct condensate tray drainage, and for pump models, correct pump activation and deactivation function.

Section 7: Product Features and Advantages

360-Degree Four-Way Uniform Air Distribution Simultaneous four-way radial discharge creates a symmetrical air movement pattern that achieves uniform temperature distribution across the entire room floor area, eliminating the temperature dead zones that single-direction supply air systems produce in larger or open-plan spaces. This is the defining performance advantage of the Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit over single-direction alternatives.

Flush Ceiling Integration — Architectural Quality The decorative face panel aligns flush with the suspended ceiling surface, presenting as a designed ceiling element rather than a utilitarian mechanical fitting. Available panel finishes allow the unit to integrate with plasterboard, mineral fiber, metal grid, and custom ceiling systems, contributing positively to the interior design of the spaces it serves.

No Wall Space Required Installation requires only ceiling void depth — no wall area, floor space, or room volume is consumed by the unit or its connections. This is a critical practical advantage in open-plan commercial spaces, retail environments, hotel corridors, and residential living areas where wall space is fully committed to windows, doors, furniture, and interior design elements.

Optional Integrated Drain Pump Expands Installation Flexibility The optional integrated drain pump eliminates the gravity drainage routing constraint that limits horizontal concealed unit installation flexibility, allowing the Four Way Air Discharge Cassette Unit to be installed in any ceiling void position regardless of proximity to gravity drain points. This capability is particularly valuable in older buildings where ceiling void geometry is complex and in new buildings where the mechanical and architectural design creates challenging drainage routing situations.

Face Panel Filter Access Without Ceiling Void Entry The return air filter is accessible by removing the face panel from below, without requiring any access to the ceiling void above the unit. This significantly simplifies routine filter cleaning compared to horizontal concealed units where filter access requires opening the ceiling void. Routine maintenance by building cleaning staff rather than specialist ceiling void access is the practical result.

Two-Pipe and Four-Pipe Water System Compatibility Full compatibility with both two-pipe seasonal switching and four-pipe simultaneous cooling and heating hydronic systems ensures the Recessed Ceiling Central AC Terminal can be specified for any central water-based air conditioning system design without model-specific variants for different system types.

EC Motor Option for Premium Energy Performance An EC brushless motor upgrade option provides stepless speed control, lower energy consumption at part-load conditions, and quieter operation compared to the standard three-speed AC motor, meeting the requirements of premium hotel and residential applications where both Energy Efficiency certification and guest comfort standards are demanding.

Section 8: Application Scenarios

Shopping Malls and Retail Stores Open-plan retail floor areas, branded boutique stores, pharmacy chains, beauty and cosmetics retail spaces, and food and beverage casual dining establishments represent the highest-volume commercial application for the Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit. The four-way discharge provides uniform temperature across the full retail floor area, the flush panel integration suits the designed ceiling environments of premium retail spaces, and the absence of wall space consumption allows the full perimeter of the retail space to be used for product display and customer service functions.

Office Buildings and Business Parks Open-plan office floors present the most demanding air distribution challenge for HVAC terminal devices — large areas without internal partitions, variable occupancy density across the floor, and a requirement for temperature uniformity that prevents complaints from workstations at any position. The Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit four-way discharge, with units positioned on a regular grid across the open floor plate, achieves the uniform temperature distribution that the open-plan format requires. Meeting rooms, training rooms, and reception lobbies in office buildings are also primary applications.

Hotel Public Areas and Food and Beverage Outlets Hotel lobbies, all-day dining restaurants, ballroom pre-function areas, business center lounges, and hotel corridor circulation spaces require air conditioning that combines high-volume air movement for large occupancy loads with low noise and aesthetic integration with the hotel's designed interior environments. The Four Way Air Discharge Cassette Unit with decorative panel and low-speed noise performance of 32 to 48 dB(A) serves these hotel public area requirements.

Medical and Healthcare Public Areas Hospital outpatient waiting areas, diagnostic imaging reception zones, outpatient pharmacy waiting areas, and medical center public circulation spaces require air conditioning with low noise, clean aesthetics, and uniform temperature distribution for patients who may be waiting for extended periods under varying physical conditions. The Recessed Ceiling Central AC Terminal with washable filter and four-way discharge serves these medical public area requirements. Dedicated clean room areas, operating theatres, and isolation rooms require specialized air handling systems beyond standard fan coil equipment.

Educational Facilities Lecture theaters, large seminar rooms, university library reading rooms, school multi-purpose halls, and educational institution cafeteria spaces require air conditioning that achieves uniform temperature across the full space while operating at noise levels compatible with the learning environment. Multiple Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit installations on a ceiling grid provide the uniform coverage required for large educational spaces without the duct distribution infrastructure that would otherwise be required.

Premium Residential Living Areas Large open-plan living and dining rooms in villa properties, penthouses, and premium apartment developments frequently require air conditioning terminal devices that can achieve uniform temperature coverage of an open floor area — 30 to 60 square meters is common for premium residential living areas — without wall-mounting constraints and with an appearance that integrates with a carefully designed interior. The Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit with decorative flush panel and four-way discharge serves these premium residential living area applications that exceed the effective coverage range of horizontal concealed single-direction units.

Community and Social Facilities Gym and fitness center exercise areas, community center multipurpose rooms, day care center activity areas, and social club function rooms are open-space environments with high and variable occupancy loads, frequent furniture rearrangement, and limited wall space. The ceiling-only installation and four-way discharge of the Recessed Ceiling Central AC Terminal serve these community facility environments without imposing constraints on the room layout flexibility that these spaces require.

Section 10: Installation Guidelines

Pre-Installation Checks Verify that the selected model, capacity configuration, static pressure type, water connection position, panel finish, and body dimensions match the project mechanical and electrical design and interior design documents. Confirm that the ceiling void depth at all cassette positions is sufficient for the unit body height plus required clearance above for suspension hardware and service access. Verify that the ceiling grid module dimensions are compatible with the selected face panel dimensions.

Ceiling Grid Coordination The cassette unit body is typically sized to fit within two or four standard ceiling grid modules. Ceiling grid layout must be coordinated with the cassette unit positions before ceiling installation begins — repositioning ceiling grid lines after installation to accommodate a mispositioned cassette opening is costly and disruptive. The face panel dimensions and the ceiling grid module must be agreed and confirmed between the HVAC contractor and the ceiling fit-out contractor before either begins installation.

Suspension and Leveling The unit body is suspended from the building structure using threaded hanger rods at the designated suspension points. The body must be leveled in both axes — a body that is not level will cause the condensate tray to drain unevenly, potentially causing condensate to pool at the high corner rather than flowing to the drain outlet. Anti-vibration rubber mounts at suspension points reduce structure-borne vibration transmission to the ceiling.

Water Piping Connection Connect chilled and hot water supply and return connections per the hydronic design, using flexible hose connections at the unit end. Fit isolation valves, balancing valves, and drain cocks. Purge all air from the coil circuit before commissioning.

Condensate Drainage For gravity drain configurations, connect the drain outlet to the building drainage system with continuous downward slope throughout. For pump-equipped configurations, connect the pump discharge to the nearest drainage point — the pump can push condensate against a head of up to 800mm typically and horizontally for several meters, providing significant routing flexibility. Test the condensate system by introducing measured water to the tray and verifying complete pump-out before the ceiling system is completed.

Face Panel Installation The face panel is installed after all ceiling grid, water piping, drainage, and electrical connections are complete and tested. The panel clips to the body from below — no ceiling void access is required for panel installation. Verify that all four discharge vane sets move smoothly across their adjustment range and return to the horizontal position correctly before commissioning.

Commissioning Test all three speed settings from the thermostat. Verify four-way discharge from all four openings. Measure temperature at multiple positions in the room under steady-state conditions to verify uniform distribution. Document commissioning results.

Section 11: Maintenance Schedule

Quarterly Filter Cleaning Remove the face panel from below, extract the filter panels from the return air opening, wash under clean running water, allow to dry completely, and reinstall. For high-dust environments including retail spaces, food service areas, and high-occupancy commercial buildings, increase cleaning frequency to monthly. The below-ceiling filter access is a significant maintenance accessibility advantage of the cassette unit over horizontal concealed units.

Monthly Condensate System Check During cooling season operation, visually confirm that condensate is draining correctly — no accumulation at the tray drain outlet that would indicate a partial blockage. For pump-equipped units, verify pump operation by listening for the pump cycling during operation or by introducing a small amount of additional water to the tray to trigger the float switch.

Annual Professional Inspection Clean heat exchanger coil fin surfaces. Test electric water valve for correct function. Inspect all water connections for leakage. Test thermostat calibration. For pump-equipped units, test complete pump activation and deactivation cycle including fault signal function. Inspect face panel condition and vane adjustment function. Verify suspension hardware condition.

Section 12: Packaging, Shipping, and Lead Time

Packaging Each Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit is packaged in protective carton packaging with foam corner cushioning and internal supports protecting the face panel finish and coil fins from transport damage. The face panel is typically packed separately within the same carton to prevent face panel surface damage. Water connection fittings, suspension hardware, and installation accessories are included. Larger project orders are palletized for container loading. Export-grade packaging is available for sea freight shipments.

Minimum Order Quantity We accept both small-quantity orders for project sampling and large-volume full-project supply contracts. Please contact our sales team to discuss project model mix and volume pricing.

What is a Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit?

A ceiling cassette fan coil unit is a central water-based air conditioning terminal device that is installed flush with the ceiling surface in a recessed position, with only the decorative face panel visible from the occupied space below. The square or near-square body sits entirely within the ceiling void, drawing room air through a central return opening in the face panel and distributing conditioned supply air outward through discharge openings at all four sides of the panel simultaneously.

This four-way simultaneous discharge is the defining performance characteristic of the cassette type. As supply air is discharged radially outward from a central ceiling position in all four directions at the same time, each supply air stream travels along the ceiling surface by Coanda effect and descends progressively around the room perimeter, creating a symmetrical circular air movement pattern that produces uniform temperature distribution across the entire floor area. This coverage capability makes the cassette type the correct choice for rooms and open-plan spaces where single-direction supply air from a horizontal concealed unit would leave significant areas under-supplied.

The unit operates on central chilled water for cooling and hot water for heating, with the room thermostat controlling the electric water valve and fan speed to maintain the set room temperature. A condensate tray collects moisture that condenses on the coil during cooling operation, with gravity drainage as standard and an optional integrated drain pump for installations where gravity drain routing is not achievable.

The face panel filter is accessible from below by removing the panel, allowing routine maintenance without ceiling void access. Panel finishes in standard white and alternative decorative options allow the unit to integrate with a wide range of ceiling design specifications.

The Ceiling Cassette Fan Coil Unit is the preferred terminal device specification for open-plan commercial spaces, retail environments, hotel public areas, large residential living areas, educational facilities, medical waiting areas, and any application where four-way uniform air distribution is required and wall space for horizontal concealed units is unavailable. Single-unit coverage of 15 to 60 square meters makes it suitable for individual room temperature control as well as multi-unit open floor coverage.
