Smoke Fire Damper for Exhaust Systems

A smoke fire damper for exhaust systems is a critical safety device designed to prevent the spread of fire, smoke, and hot gases through ductwork during an emergency. It is typically installed in ventilation and exhaust ducts that pass through fire-rated walls, floors, or partitions. When a fire occurs, the damper automatically closes to maintain the integrity of the fire barrier and to help protect occupants, property, and equipment. The construction of a smoke fire damper usually includes a robust frame, heat‑resistant blades, and a reliable actuation mechanism. The blades are often made from galvanized or stainless steel to ensure durability under high temperature conditions. Seals may be incorporated along the blade edges and around the frame to limit smoke leakage when the damper is closed. The overall assembly is designed and tested in accordance with relevant fire and smoke standards, and it is assigned a fire‑resistance rating that indicates how long it can withstand exposure to fire.In normal operation, the damper remains open to allow exhaust air and contaminated fumes to be removed from the building. This is particularly important in kitchens, industrial workshops, laboratories, and car parks, where efficient extraction of hot air, smoke, vapors, or pollutants is essential for indoor air quality and worker comfort. The damper is sized and selected to minimize pressure loss and noise while maintaining the required exhaust airflow. When a fire is detected, the smoke fire damper is activated by one or more control methods. A common method uses a fusible link that melts at a predetermined temperature, releasing a spring‑loaded mechanism that rapidly closes the blades. More advanced models are motorized and controlled by a fire alarm or building management system. In this case, a signal from a smoke detector, heat detector, or fire alarm panel commands the actuator to close. Motorized dampers can also provide position feedback for monitoring and can be reset remotely after an event or test.Integration with the building’s fire safety strategy is essential. The damper must be placed at each point where the exhaust duct penetrates a fire‑rated barrier, and its fire rating must be equal to or higher than that of the barrier. Proper installation requires sealing around the damper sleeve with approved fire‑resistant materials to prevent bypass of smoke or flame. In addition, the orientation, access panels, and support structures must follow the damper manufacturer’s instructions and applicable codes.Regular inspection, testing, and maintenance are necessary to ensure long‑term performance. This includes visual checks for damage or corrosion, functional tests to verify opening and closing, and confirmation that detection and control circuits operate correctly. By combining robust construction, automatic actuation, and proper integration with detection systems, a smoke fire damper for exhaust systems plays a vital role in limiting fire and smoke spread, supporting safe evacuation, and aiding firefighting operations.

The Smoke Fire Damper is a dual-function fire protection component installed in building mechanical smoke exhaust systems, combining active smoke exhaust capability with automatic high-temperature fire containment in a single unit. Normally open during both daily ventilation and the active smoke exhaust phase of a fire event, it allows smoke to be drawn out of the fire zone by the exhaust fan system, protecting evacuation routes and enabling firefighting operations. When exhaust duct temperatures reach 280°C — the threshold at which continued exhaust operation would risk spreading fire through the ductwork — the integrated fusible link element triggers automatic blade closure, simultaneously sending a linkage signal to stop the smoke exhaust fan and prevent flames from traveling further through the duct system. The Smoke Fire Damper supports three control modes: thermal automatic closure via the 280 Degree Fusible Link Smoke Damper mechanism, electric remote closure via DC24V fire alarm linkage, and manual on-site closure. Signal feedback output to the fire control room is standard. Manufactured from galvanized steel or stainless steel with fire-rated sealing components, the unit complies with GB 15930-2024 national standards and is widely specified for high-rise buildings, shopping centers, underground car parks, hospitals, industrial facilities, and public assembly buildings across Southeast Asia and global markets.
